Uganda Baati, a leading supplier of roofing products, recently added on its payroll Mr Henry Suubi Kiyimba, who was in 2019 mocked on social media for carrying a metallic suitcase as he commenced his 1st semester at Makerere University in Kampala.

The tweet said, ‘#HeyFreshers A rare picture of a fresher attached to University Hall (U.H) reporting today with his S.1 metal case and Osoufia (insert laugh emojis)’. It was the morning of August 6th, 2019.

Suubi believers that that this social media post intended to ‘ridicule’ him, was rather used by God to lift him, and attract his destiny helpers.

Suubi took to social media on 5th January, 2024 to express his gratitude to God for this new job.

“I did not fly to where I am today. I walked there one step at a time, with God placing destiny helpers at every point in my life,” Henry said.

Suubi encouraged his followers to place their faith in God. He urged that God is concerned about everything one goes through.

“If it matters to you, it matters to God. If it’s your greatest joy or your deepest pain, or you just need an answer, it all maters to Him too,” he said.

Suubi was first admitted to Makerere University on a government scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree of Science with Education (Economics) after attaining 17 points at UACE from St. Bruno Sserunkuma S.S Goli where he studied Physics, Economics, and Mathematics (PEM).

Shortly after the ‘disturbing’ tweet, a campaign to find him ensued. He revealed that his dream course would have been engineering but his parents could not afford to privately fund him for the course and that if it was not for the government which offered him a place at the university, he wouldn’t be able to join the tertiary institution.

Joadah Consult and Development Infrastructure, a construction company, offered him a full sponsorship to pursue his preferred course, mechanical Engineering, wherein he earned a first-class degree [CGPA 4.47], last year.

Well-wishers gathered over 2 million to meet several of Suubi’s needs at the time, including a school fees debt of Ush2 million owed to his high school where his UACE pass slip was withheld. Other items provided by well-wishers included a laptop, shoes, beddings, clothes, stationery, a suitcase, a mobile phone, and food, as various sources reported.
